Dear Mother, Dad, &
Girls,The mail just came in and I had five letters. Two from you, two from Rosalie, and one from Kenneth. The mail comes in alright now. The last three days has been got just like home and I just haven’t had to the energy to write. I have been putting off writing to Mrs. Whitaker for a long while guess I’ll have to write as bad as I hate to. We have been set up by a farm house and village. The people brings us butter, eggs, and wine. There are some ducks here on a pond that are always quacking and sure reminds me of home. We had fired eggs yesterday morning for breakfast. The cook come along, woke up all up hollering chow and every man bring his own eggs ha. I had a dozen but only ate three. This morning we had hot cakes and boy our cook makes them that will melt your mouth. At different places we have cucumbers and tomatoes that the people give us. I had some plums and apricots the other day. I would like to see Ed and Rotha Young. Ed, Dad, and I really used to have some fishing trips. I’d like to go with them again. That was sure too bad about Waldo and Clessa. Rosalie was telling me about it. That Sheldon bunch is just like a bunch of rabbits. What in hell is Beth Smith going to do with anymore? He never fails to have a crop of kids every fall. Ha. For hecks sakes don’t start using mail or I’ll never get them until I get back home. Some of the apples are sweet but not many. We are getting into grape county now. There are lots of wild black berries that re getting ripe now. I even seen a grove of wild hazel nuts a while back. I hadn’t ever seen any of them grow before. Say Mrs. Claudge was shooting you a line of baloney when she was talking about me. There isn’t much to write about today. Can’t you just picture me laying under a big shady apple tree on a blanket protecting it? Ha. Well that about the way it is. Don’t worry about me going up Mama. Ha all I’m supposed to do is follow along behind the other men policing up the area picking up paper and tin cans that are laying everywhere. It is nearly dinner time and besides I have left my shady apply tree unprotected.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
