This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

France

September 9, 1944
Dear Mother and all,

The mail just came in and I had one letter and it was from Rosalie and was glad to hear form her as usual. The sun came out real warm this evening so I rounded up some guys and we went swimming. The water was like ice but we had a heck of a lot of fun throwing each other in. We had another picture who again today. That is the second one this week besides a U.S.O. show. They are getting unusually good to us for some reason. It seems funny for all the men to come in single fine with their guns and all to the show. Wouldn’t that look funny back home?

We had a big chicken supper tonight – it sure hit the spot. You could really show them a thing or two about cooking it though.

How are they kids doing in school? And you at Penny’s? They’ll be picking cotton their soon I guess. I get quite a kick talking to these Frenchmen. Of all the motions you both go through to make the other understand. It seems as though, Dad, that you boys left a bad reputation here in the last war. I’ve got to write Rosalie.

Love to all,
Max
