This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

August 26, 1944

France

August 26, 1944
Dear Mother, Dad, & Girls,

I just finished listening to the news and it was good as usual. I’ve been sitting around this morning killing bees. Boy they are lousy. They practically take our food away from us when we are eating and they are always stinging us.

Say Mama, does K.G.L.U still play requests on peoples birthdays and things. I was just wondering – Rosalie’s birthday is the 30th of September and if they still do have them play the song – “Long Ago,” for her. Will you do that? And if you can get her some kind of a present for me, I can’t get anything over here.

The censor called me over the other day and said for me to fall out in line in front of his tent the following morning, with my right shirt sleeve rolled up  - so that he could bust my arm. He says I write more than anybody here and he is sick of censoring my mouth. Ha.

We had another party last night one of the boys got two packages. There isn’t anything to write about this morning.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
