This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

France

July 12, 1944

 Dear Mother and all,

What’s new at home? There isn’t much doing here. Everybody’s laying around taking life easy. Most of the guys are playing baseball or poker. It is a lot warmer over here than in England. I guess that’s cause this country is more flat and has more trees. I just finished a letter to Kenneth – Rosalie is next on the list. What is Norman and Hazel doing? Are they still in Tucson or not? I hope Norman doesn’t have to come back over.

While I was in England, I saw the place where the pilgrims got on the Mayflower and started for America. There was a big monument there that told all about it. There was also a King’s castle with a big rocks around it that went down to the sea it had been built in the 13th century. There are sure some old houses and castles in England – all them have the dates when they were built on them. It seems funny the way the French people talk man what a jabber.

This isn’t much, but I’m going to have to quit these darn guys are bothering me so much that I just gave up.

Love to all,

Max
