This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

November 29, 1944

France

November 29, 1944
Dear Mother, Dad, & Girls,

I started to write last night, but decided to wait until I was on guard this morning and use the machine. I went on at five this morning. I had a letter from Rosalie and one from Kenneth last night. Kenneth seems to be getting along alright up there and seems to be having lots of fun just like all the rest of us.

I liked to never got to sleep last night. There was a little party going on just outside my tent and the boys were raising hell with things. And they didn’t give it up until all the drinks ran out. Every five minutes until eleven-thirty one of them would holler in to me as to what time it was or did I want a little snort.

I think I’ll go in today and take a shower then come back and wash up my dirty clothes if it will stop raining long enough. I’m a pretty tidy maid when it comes to keeping my clothes clean and my things in shape.

Well tomorrow is that happy day again when we all get paid and the fun starts all over again. We get paid and also get our gun and candy rations too so it will be a happy day. No sooner than the paymaster puts out the pay than you see big poker games roaring everywhere and the boom usually lasts for about three days until one or two men get the whole outfits pay then the winner of it all loans it out to all the losers and so it goes until we get paid again. Well I’ll sign of for today.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
