This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

August 24, 1944

France

August 24, 1944
Dear Mother, Dad, & Girls,

I have had three more letters since I wrote last. Your two and one from Rosalie. More mail is coming in today. It comes in to us every other day. I enjoyed looking over that list of names and addresses of the service men of Duncan.

So you went on pass to those two places huh Dad. That place farthest inland is quite a place. I was in the middle of it for a week. That’s where the people were so good to us and when I went to the dance. That was sure good news about the liberation of Paris and the fall of Rumania wasn’t it. Things are going good now.

Norman will fool around and get too many irons in the fire, but I guess running a station would be pretty good if he makes out and has time to spend running it.

Yes, Kenneth and Betty Whipple are still going strong. She is really a nice girl – I like her.

This summer has passed quick hasn’t it? The girls will be in school time you get this letter.

Last night some French kids brought us a big sack full of the biggest prettiest tomatoes. I nearly busted eating them. They are always bringing us things and we give them candy and gum.

I’ve got the best music on my radio in the mornings and evenings. We pick up New York through London. Very few of the boys gets music like that. I get that station that is for the overseas forces and it sure is good. I'll stop for now.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
