This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

France

September 7, 1944
Dear Mother and all:

I just got your letter of the 25th and one from Rosalie. She told me about going down to Phillps a while back.

So Ross Holden was in the invasion and had a furlough I’d like to see Ross. My little heart bled and I almost cried when I read about Scot Sloan was wounded. Isn’t that just too bad. Ha.

Something must be haywire. They are putting a U.S.O. show on for us this afternoon. That sure sounds fishy to have a picture show – then two days later a U.S.O. show.

You’ll be on the go all the time now that you are working and have to get the kids to school too. I wish you weren’t working up there. It’s been too damn cold the last few days to take a bath even so until the sun comes out I’m going to be forced to stay dirty.

Ha – there is a French girl out here now asking for Max, so I guess I better go see what’s up. The thing I like about these girls is that you can cuss them out without them knowing what you’re saying.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
P.S. – I got a big butter and egg deal on? Ha.
