This blog is a place for the letters that Corporal Max Blazzard wrote home to his family during his service in WWII, and a few that they wrote to him.

Dear Mother, Dad, & Girls:

I got a letter form you yesterday and today I got letters from Kenneth, Hazel, Mrs. Whitacker, and Rosalie. The mail has been coming in pretty good lately. Yes, Rosalie always tells me the Duncan news ahead of you a week or so. The letter I got from Hazel was a long one. She was saying they were getting three days off to come over. Ha. She is still raving about Leona and Elmer’s visit to their place. Everybody has their littler troubles. You should all have a nice time up in the mountain. Rosalie was just telling me about her visit up to paradise on the 4th of July. She sure had a good time. No I didn’t know anything about the election. Hell that’s the least of my worries. I never could take an interest in that. You were saying that the neighbor kids had ruined all your flowers and cantaloupes, you’ll have to fix you some booby-traps, that’ll fix them.

Some of the boys and I had a big hike today just looking around. These people around here must have been well off and prosperous from the looks of the insides of some of these houses. I saw one of the cutest wooden shoes but couldn’t find the match to it. I have run across lots of old half worn out wooden shoes but this was a new one and was varnished up pretty. I’d like to find a nice pair for souvenirs. We also found some darn good apple cider too. We find so much of it that the boys are getting choosy now and won’t drink just any ole cider they find. You would have liked this that we found today Dad.

There is no use me telling you any Duncan gossip you have most likely already heard it. The war news sure sounds good lately. At the rate things are going this is going to be over and forgot about in another thirty days. I get the latest news in half hour.

It is time for me to go on duty and I’ll have to write my honey later this evening.
Love to all,
Your son,
Max
